01 · Developmental editing
See the whole draft clearly.
Big-picture editorial guidance for book-length manuscripts, substantial essays, courses, reports, and other long-form work.
A developmental edit looks at the architecture before the surface. We consider the central promise, intended reader, order, pacing, gaps, repetition, and the relationship between individual sections.
A good fit when
- the draft contains strong material but its center is difficult to name;
- you have revised repeatedly and no longer know which level to change;
- early readers give contradictory feedback;
- the opening, ending, and middle seem to belong to different versions of the project.
What you receive
A close reading of the complete material, a substantial editorial letter, chapter- or section-level notes, an annotated manuscript where useful, and a prioritized revision conversation. Scope and delivery are confirmed after reviewing the project.
